On 14th June 2023 at 16:00 CET, the fifth meeting of the working group on Occupational Health Criteria (OHC) in Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) of Potentially Odour-Annoying Activities (POAA) took place. The OHC group in IAQ for POAA is coordinated by Gloria Sánchez Santos, Head of the Quality Control section at the Directorate of Prevention Services and Waste Management of the Barcelona Metropolitan Authority (AMB).
On 8th February 2023, the first initiative of the International Environmental Odour Managers Association (AMIGO) related to Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) was launched. After several meetings, it was decided to focus on the following working groups:
- Occupational health criteria for IAQ in Potentially Odour-Annoying Activities (POAA).
- Ventilation criteria for POAA.
- Minimum IAQ and odour criteria in non-industrial environments (e.g. homes, offices, hospitals, shopping centres, cars, etc.).
After a round of voting, it was decided to start with the first working group and then continue with the others. Gloria Sánchez Santos is the coordinator of this OHC group in IAQ for POAA, which held its fifth meeting on 14th June.
This group has been divided into three subgroups.
G1: Scope, objectives, and definitions
G2: Odour risk analysis
G3: Health surveillance
At each meeting, a case study on IAQ from one of the volunteers is typically presented, and then the common text is worked on. While there is usually a lot of information available on outdoor air, there is less literature on IAQ. If published, it would be the first guide to address this impact from a comprehensive perspective.
